It's been a while...
Anyway, you might see one or more of these released in the near future. Or maybe not. More likely not.

Small (in more ways than one) exploration game featuring a bird. It will likely be called "Bird", as I am incredibly creative.

War simulation game. More fun to watch than participate at this point. Sorry for the huge pic.

Messing about with graphics. No real gameplay as yet.

Side scrolling shooter, currently called "Squad of One".

Game for EGP No Buttons competition. I'm making a full featured platformer controlled entirely be waving the mouse around.

Bigger project than usual, features exploration, bossfights, and wall jumping. Also on a scale of 9x9 and using GM's default palette. There is no particular reason for either of these.
Feedback on which of these you find the most interesting would be useful, although it will probably be ignored.

Krebswelte Review

Yeah, so I was looking through the TIGsource forums and saw an old game from cactus. I asked him about it on his forums and he kindly released it. So I thought I'd review it.
Krebswelte is a procedurally generated platform shooter created for the TIGSource procedural generation contest. The level generation is impressive although there are some oddities. The game seems to generate on of three different kinds of levels: levels without much in them at all, levels with lots of NPCs, and levels with lots of enemies. The text seems to be misaligned in many cases.

Despite these oddities, Krebswelte is a very enjoyable game. Running around, blowing stuff up, and buying more destructive weapons is always fun. Another interesting element is the ability to find and purchase additional lives. The game is very addictive, as I played for hours despite many, many deaths.
I would definitely recommend this game if you want a challenge. Download

Here are the results for the 90 Minutes of Brains Competition:
There were many excellent entries, and I'd like to say that that's why it took me so long to judge, but that's not really true. But maybe you should pretend it is and not get mad.
And the winner is...
BirdBrain by Electron79

The Good: This game was one of the more well rounded of the entries, with an gradual difficulty curve and consistent graphics. The gameplay was fun, although there were a few oddities like enemies shooting through walls. However, the gradual introduction of new enemy types and progressively more difficult and interesting rooms more than made up for the few quirks. The game avoided the two pitfalls that most of the other entries fell into of either making the difficulty curve too abrupt (or non-existent), leading to me giving up in frustration, or making the game to easy and thus boring.

The Bad: While the graphics were nicely consistent, the enemy sprites were rather bland and uninteresting. no other sprite looked quite as good as the flying brain. It would have been cool if the creator had used other body parts as the enemies. This would have at least resulted in some interesting conversations (e.g. "I liked the game, but I found the spleens a bit too difficult"). As it is, the enemies are these boring yellow shapes nobody really likes.

100 Epic Minutes - Two Epic Winners

Firstly:
PinkBurst by YellowAfterlife

PinkBurst is a small, well polished arena shmup with quasi-3D graphics and many different gameplay modes. Also, achievements were recently added, making the game much more enjoyable to play. The graphics were the best out of all the entries, and the game didn't seem as though it had been thrown together quickly. That said, the game does have some problems. While there are different gameplay modes, all the enemies are pretty much the same. I would have liked to see some powerups (okay, there's a burst powerup in most gameplay modes, but that's it), and maybe an occasional boss. The game takes a while to really get going, so people playing for the first time may get bored. Perhaps a faster room speed would improve the game? But overall, PinkBurst is a very enjoyable way to waste some time. I'd give it a shot.

Secondly:
Epic Symbols by krisl01(aka Krosgamer)

Epic Symbols was chosen by the faithful readers of my blog (of which there are about two). It's an interesting game, using the gravity-switching gimick most recently seen in VVVVVV, but allowing the player to switch directions in mid air. This lends itself to some interesting puzzles, featured in the game's ten short levels. As far as graphics go, the game was fairly appealing, although the limiting of the view got a bit annoying at times. Overall, it's a fun game, and I myself nearly chose it for first. The only thing that stopped me was the rather slow start and inconsistent and sometimes repetitive gameplay.

All this is not to say that there were no other good entries. I had a tough choice choosing a winner, and I enjoyed playing the various games. Thanks to everyone who entered and my congratulations to the winners.

Retro Horror Competition Results

It really was tough to choose a winner. All the games were fairly polished and fun. They all had the same weakness: repetitive gameplay. It was ridiculously close.
The winner, due to being a tiny bit more polished and fun was:
Take That, Zombies! by Zack

This game had fun gameplay, decent graphics, and good overall polish. Being able to change the colors and an online scoreboard helped round out the game. I probably played this game the most while trying to pick a winner, it's simple but mildly addicting.
That isn't to say that this game is perfect. Powerups would have been a nice addition and there are glitches when zombies are directly above or below you. The player animation could have used work, it looks a bit odd. The game felt rather pointless after a while.
I'm not saying that Take That, Zombies is a bad game, it just doesn't feel like it's quite finished. I would be quite happy to see the creator expand on this fun little game.
Congratulations Zack, and thanks to all who entered. There wasn't a single entry I didn't enjoy playing.

Micropacifist received second place in the GMG second weekly competition. The mini review was mostly positive, saying "MicroPacifist has, hands down, the finest presentation of any game here. The graphics are some of the finest low-res psychedelia I've seen in all my days, and the arrhythmic noisefest that is the music definitely floats my boat." Jabberwock then goes on to complain about repetitive level design and CPU hog special effects. These are certainly valid complaints, not that I'm planning to do anything about them.

Yeah, so I'm moving from Virginia to the frozen wastes of Colorado.

I have been getting better at pixel art, so my future games should cause less physical pain to the player.

I am trying to learn Flash (trying is definitely the key word there).

I am working on a way better, fully colored sequel to AstroMoonDoom.

I couldn't think of a fifth thing, but four seemed like an awkwardly sized number.

Two Hours of Madness: The Winner

No, seriously it was very hard to choose a winner. However, in the end I went with... (drum role please)
Hoola Roundup by Ashley Gwinnell!
When I was trying to choose a winner, I kept changing my mind. In the end it was down to this or TVengeance. There are three reasons I chose Hoola Roundup:
1) Fun, simple game.
2) Actually staying (mostly) within the time limit (10 minutes over instead of forty).
3) Fit the theme well.
Hoola Roundup is a good game, with amusing simple graphics. I probably played this game the most while trying to figure out who should win. The concept is very simple (move the Hoolas to corners of the corresponding color), but it is well pulled off and fairly polished.
This is not to say HR is perfect. It could definitely use more in the way of powerups, or some variation in Hoolas (behave differently, not just be different colors). However, it used the theme well, and is a fun little game.

Jabberwock reviewed AstroMoonDoom on Game Maker Games, giving it a 5/10 which isn't bad considering the game was made in three hours.

For the "Make a really hard game" contest. Surprisingly enough it is a really hard game, although you can (in theory) beat it. Instruction explained in game. It makes really hard randomly generated bosses.

I released a tiny (5 level) demo of this back in April. For some reason I feel inspired to finish it. Should be coming soon. You can choose background and foreground colors.

Also, I started working on a sequel to Edeji (which hasn't been released and is nowhere close to being done). However, I have an actual plot for it, and in can stand on its own. Not sure whether it or Edeji will be finished first.

If you are wondering why I am posting so much, it's because I am done with school. Yay.

To make it look like I am actually working, I decided to release an old game. It was made almost entirely in drag and Drop, and is not all that polished. Still, you may enjoy it. Stranger things have happened, albeit not often.

Arrow keys move.
Space for new colors.
Beat the game as fast as you can and die as little as possible. If you take over thirty seconds to beat a level the game will go into seizure mode.

RetroSeizure - Coming sooner than Edeji, anyway...
Starts of as a pretty normal platform game, albeit one with randomly generated colors.

However, if you don't complete the level in under 30 seconds, bad things start happening.

Who knew trying to get to the moon would be so hard? Luckily, your ship has some serious firepower. Fight past four types of enemies in a vain attempt to get there.

Made a game for a poppenkast competition. Astronauts was the theme.

Story:
Yous spaceship crashed! Try to find another one! Now! Watch out for moon bats and random things that pop out of the ground and eat you!
just use the arrow keys to move and enter to start(and spawn an astronaut).

Not everything gray is ground... sort of... that made no sense...
